Happy Cabernet Franc Day! Today, we raise a glass to one of the most elegant and versatile grape varieties out there—Cabernet Franc. Often the quieter parent to the bold Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc brings finesse and complexity with its characteristic aromas of green bell pepper and red fruit. Don’t be fooled—Cabernet Franc is more than just a blending grape, and shines in a wide range of climates.

To mark the day, we’d like to spotlight a hidden gem from an unexpected region: Turkey’s Thrace, and the Chamlija Cabernet Franc 2022, a new addition to the winery's lineup.
This beauty is a single varietal Cabernet Franc from Chamlija, a powerhouse in the Turkish wine scene. It spent 12 months maturing in oak, resulting in an elegant and restrained wine. High, velvet-smooth tannins and fresh acidity balance the alcohol perfectly. On the nose, you’ll find blackcurrant leaf, dried mint, ripe plum and sour cherry.
Turkish Cabernet Franc is highly underrated, and it’s time to give this region the recognition it deserves. Thrace has a continental climate with some maritime influence that allows this grape to ripen beautifully, retaining both fruit intensity and acidity. Next time you’re looking for a Cabernet Franc with a twist, think of Turkey!
